Many clients ask me each summer and fall about how I keep busy in the winter. Actually it is never a problem as my role of Executive Director of the Maine Professional Guides Association almost always provides interesting things to keep me busy. This winter has been no different.

For many of you March is a spring month but here in Maine it is usually a full on winter month. Not this year! The Megunticook Lake Warden sent pictures of the ice being mostly gone and the ponds here in Union have been mostly ice free for a couple of weeks now.

This morning the air was not warm although it had that hazy sunny early spring look and smell. This is the last day of meteorological winter here in Maine and the first calendar day is only a few weeks away. While we have an extra day this February it sure doesn’t feel like a February day. Keep in mind that a year ago we had a tractor come in and push back the snowbanks so we had more room to pile snow.
