Feels Like Spring Today

This morning the air was not warm although it had that hazy sunny early spring look and smell. This is the last day of meteorological winter here in Maine and the first calendar day is only a few weeks away. While we have an extra day this February it sure doesn’t feel like a February day. Keep in mind that a year ago we had a tractor come in and push back the snowbanks so we had more room to pile snow. This year the ice in many of the local ponds is thin if not partly gone after the winter that barely was.

Argy and I noticed this morning that the daffodils are up along the stone wall, crocuses too! Another sure sign of spring is that I have started to replace and renew my fishing gear. The spring orders for new fly lines, flies and spinning tackle will be placed in the next week or so. Clearly the season is almost here! I for one can’t wait to get back out on the water with my clients many of whom have already made reservations for the coming season. You should be making plans too!
