Spring in March

For many of you March is a spring month but here in Maine it is usually a full on winter month. Not this year! The Megunticook Lake Warden sent pictures of the ice being mostly gone and the ponds here in Union have been mostly ice free for a couple of weeks now.

I noticed in the last few days that the migrating flocks of robins have arrived which also means that the woodcock are here. I am taking the dogs out for a little exercise and to see if we might find one of those woodcock later today.

This coming week I plan to get the Lund registered and expect that the first fishing excursion of the year will happen very soon. I am placing the order for new fishing equipment of the coming season this week too.

Even though here on the coast a day that starts warm quickly develops a sea breeze that makes the afternoon at best chilly. The ocean temperature is still in the low 40’s so any breeze from that direction is not exactly warm!

While I am sure that full spring is still a ways off it is nice to know that it is coming soon.
