I do trout fishing trips on a very limited basis, mostly because it is a shoulder season fishery in this part of the state. Trout like cold water and are most active here in the spring and late fall. Sometimes though a client is intent on trout fishing like today and I am glad for the opportunity.

Trips come in bunches that is for sure and lately I have been on a teaching fly fishing kick. Several learn to fly fish trips last week and an afternoon of teaching fly casting at Sweetgrass Winery to round out the week.

It is easy to mark the progression of the season by the things that happen outdoors and today was one of those annual milestones. I was on a striper fishing trip and in the course of the morning passed three eagle nests. Fishing near the first nest I could see two heads over the side for a few minutes. As we passed the second both chicks were out of the nest perched on a nearby limb.
