Quite a sight to see

I fished on one of my clearest lakes yesterday as part of my early spring check out. I round a few bass holding on the shallow flats but not much to get excited about. When I got into one of my favorite deeper coves I was surprised to see a school of bass all between roughly 3 and 5 pounds patrolling along the edge of a flat.

The fun part

As you might expect there are some fun parts of being a guide and to me the early season is one of them. My goal is to spend time at each of the places that I intend to guide in the coming season. The real purpose is to be aware of any big changes that may impact a client trip. The fun part is that I get to fish a number of places and just get back on the water.

Getting there!

Yesterday we had enough snow to cover the ground. Sort of discouraging but spring is always a one step forward two steps back affair in Maine. Today and the rest of the week will make up for it by being sunny and seasonably warm. Not summer mind you but warmer than yesterday. To mark the snowstorm I did a little fly fishing for trout and managed to land a couple of brook trout.
