You have to love the bureaucracy!

My company Maine Outdoors is an S Corporation which means that I take a small salary for my efforts. (Let’s not discuss my hourly rate it is below the minimum wage by a long shot) As a normal part of getting a paycheck every month I pay unemployment insurance. Because of some wording in the rules I am not allowed to draw that insurance because of being an officer of the corporation. No problem so far, I am willing to do my part to keep the pool going and someday I hope to have an employee that might need the insurance. Not to mention it is a small amount each month.

These are the winter days.

The sky does not have a single cloud and is a bright blue contrasted with the white snow on the ground. A beautiful winter day, except that the temperature is struggling to reach 20 and the wind is howling in the trees. Oh well I tell folks all of the time that we have 10 days in the summer when it is to hot to go outside and 10 days in the winter when it is to cold to go outside. Today is one of the cold ones.

Real Maine Winter at last

Winter is here in full force this week with some snow on Monday followed by bitter cod. The high on Wednesday was around 8 I had a meeting in the afternoon and the temperature fell from 6 when I went in to 0 when I came out at around 5:30. The current forecast calls for snow again tomorrow with accumulations of around 6 inches or so. The dogs are in the house most of the time when the temperature is so cold. Mae the pointer thinks that she has died and gone to heaven. She spends most of her time stretched out on the floor right next to the wood stove.
