Toward the end of a learn to fly fish trip earlier this week I noticed a painted turtle in floating near the shore of the pond that seemed to be having some trouble swimming. He would float for a while head up and then try to dive without much success.
After three days guiding on the saltwater and feeling my way around in the thick fog I was ready for a couple of quiet hours fishing on freshwater. The surface of the pond was smooth when I 
launched the boat and the promised rain showers not too far to the west. I could see fish here and there splashing on the surface but without any real pattern to the feeding.
Another big snowstorm formed out at sea over the weekend. We were not close enough to get a lot of snow instead we got wind! Even now a day later the wind is still up moaning through the trees making this bright sunny day seem frigid.
