As the Executive Director of the Maine Professional Guides Association I once in a while have some great opportunities like judging moose calling events or going along on a research visit to a bear den in northern Maine.

I am adding to my resume that I am now the most experienced moose calling contest judge in the state, after all I have judged three of the last four calling contests. They have all been fun and it is always interesting to hear folks different version of the basic bull and cow moose calls. Yesterday’s event had by far the best showmanship and was the most interesting for the audience.

In today’s Bangor Daily News according to the most recent census, Maine is the most rural state. How do they figure this stuff out? Seems hard to imagine that we are more rural than say North Dakota or Montana but I digress. While many will lament our rural nature, as a working guide I am delighted.
