May Fishing!

I know the picture does not show a big fish or even a lot of fish but rather a perfectly sunny day with little wind. This day was the exception to be sure for this spring. Most days have been cold, wet and windy. Still, we have arrived at the magic time for our freshwater lakes and ponds. Water temperatures are right around 60 degrees and smallmouth bass have started to spawn with fish actively defending their beds. Excellent sight fishing in some of our crystal clear waters.

Largemouth bass are also beginning their spawning activity making for a couple of weeks of excellent bass fishing. Along with that clients have caught trout on almost every trip this spring including a bunch of brook trout yesterday and a unlikely looking cove. The trout were holding in about a foot of water and proved very cooperative for about twenty minutes. Actually, I think we had caught every one in that cove after a while and they were on to us.

I addition I expect that the stripers will arrive in the Saint George in the next couple of weeks. As always everything happens at once in our spring so get out there before things settle into the summer patterns.
