Stripers!

Blog Tags:

Just a quick post to say that the stripers have arrived in the Saint George River in numbers. It has been a long wait for them to get here but they are a fish worth waiting for. For the last couple of days there have been acres of bait. Including an early bunch of what I call rain bait (it looks like it is raining where they are in the river because of all of the dimples on the surface) I think in reality that they are a bay anchovy.  Sometimes I wish I had paid closer attention in those fish ID classes in college. There are numbers of blueback herring and of course there are still alewives galore dropping back down out of the river, a veritable striper smorgasbord! The water temperatures are pretty consistently in the upper 50’s and low 60’s so we should have fish to catch from now until October! I have a  few open dates next week if you would like to go please drop me an e-mail or give me a call.

Hello friends of the striped bass. :)
Im wondering if there is a live eel fishing enthuaist out there. I have read alot online about this and im thinking its sounds like a great way for me and my boys ( Brian and henry ) to catch us a really big striper. you can find us fishing the scarborough area a good couple times a week.
Heres my thing. From what im reading i see this. Casting live eels and either free spooling or a slow retrieve. What i want to do is cast them from the beach. I do not read anything about how to go about this. wieght rig sounds like the ticket to us but it would also seem that your looking for a good tangle with the ell on a weighted rig. Even tho i am aware of crackin the eel over the head to lessing this proble. I would just like to hear from someone that has , does and finds the big fish using this tactic.
We love to fish the beaches and the rivers. Weve done well for many years now and think that we deserve a REALLY nice striper.

Help if you can and tight lines to you and your families :)
Hugh, Brian and henry.

Hugh,I am sorry but I do very little live bait fishing for stripers. Live mackerel once in a while is as much as I know about.  You might try asking at one of the bait shops down your way for advice on how to fish them.Best,Don
