Every year for the last several Stripers Forever has surveyed its membership about the striper fishery. The results reflect my fishing last summer. (It is nice to know it was not just me or my clients or this corner of the world) You can view the results at this linkon their website. There are a number of interesting comments from anglers up and down the coast.
I am working in the office this week (staying out of the cold) updating my business plan for the coming year and wondering how much I will be able to rely on striper fishing as a part of my business next summer. Of course one of the real joys of being a guide is that no matter how much you think you know or can figure it out nature is really in control.
As I look ahead I am planning to spend a little more time bass fishing on freshwater this coming summer. But who really knows what the summer will bring?

Striper Fishing
I went out about 10 times this past summer throughout June and July fishing from the new bridge in Augusta to the town pier in Gardiner as well as a kayak trip from Verona island to sand point. I never received a single strike. Last season I was successful in pulling in many fish including 20 in one day on the Penobscot. Something is definitely happening with this fishery.
Bass fishing on the other hand was incredible . . .
Striper Fishing
Steve,I can't say that we went without a fish but it was slower than I have seen it for a very long time. Where clients would land dozens of fish on a good trip in previous years a dozen was a great trip last summer. I will say though that the fish we did catch ran a little bigger than the seson before.The freshwater fishing was excellent last summer I think that regular rain kept water temperatures from getting too warm and levels constant all summer. As always the most enjoyable fishing was in September and early October. In fact it was harder to stop fishing and head to Libby Camps bird hunting than ever before.
