October Bass Fishing

Created on Sat Oct 4, 2008 by Don Kleiner

I have always enjoyed fall fishing and the first week of October has been well worth the effort this year. I have spent most days bass fishing on a few ponds and enjoyed some good fishing.

Nice October Largemouth Bass

This fish was the best of the week and one of the best of the summer. Admittedly the fishing is best mid day when the sun warms the water some. Not necessarily a bad thing just different from my usual early starts. Today was very productive in spite of a strong breeze out of the west and cool air temperatures. The water temperature continues to hold at 60 which seems to be perfect. I am reluctantly switching to guiding bird hunters for the next few weeks but plan to return to this excellent bass fishing next month. Let’s hope that the pleasant weather holds until then.

We are coming to Rangeley from October 9 to October 16, 2011. Are there any fishing opportunities available to me in the area.

Michael,Most of the lakes and ponds in this part of the state are open in October but the Rangeley Region will not have as many opportunities in the fall in order to protect spawning trout and salmon. Your best bet would be to check the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlfie website and look through the open water fishing rules to see what the possibilities might be. I am planning to be over that way at the end of the month for a meeting but fishing willl not be in the plan.Give me a call or fill out a contact form if you are interested in travelling toward the Maine coast for some fishing as part of your visit. I know that you will have plenty of outstanding scenery over that way at that time of the fall.Enjoy your trip!
