A delightful morning of fishing

I fished this morning with a gentleman from South Carolina who is spending a couple of weeks at the Samoset on vacation. We had to wait for good weather but boy was it worth the wait. There was almost no wind and clear skies with a warm sun by late morning. The beech and oak leaves were beautiful along the shore as we motored down the pond. We also saw an eagle circling overhead.

I chose a pond that I have not had a chance to fish all year. I was a treat to be back on water that I had not visited in a while. As we left the launch I saw a few fish on the surface of the pond but assumed that I was seeing things. It is after all November and we did have 16 inches of rain last month. We fished at several of my usual fall spots with no luck and I headed back toward the ramp where we fished one of the shallow coves and were rewarded with a very nice smallmouth bass of maybe three pounds.

Continuing on toward the ramp the fish on the surface were there again we tried for them and succeeded in landing a very nice brown trout. I assume that they are enjoying the cool water and feeding actively especially during the day when the water temperature warms slightly. We were lucky to have such a perfect morning so late in the season. But I guess it just goes to show that the fish are there all you need to do is get out there and fish.
