Tropical Storm Hannah really did not have much of an impact on our area beyond lots of rain. I heard that western Maine recieved as much as seven inches. We did not have that much but we did have enough to raise the freshwater part of the Saint George significantly and change the color of the saltwater section from sea green to freshwater brown. The color change was visible yesterday as far out as the nearby islands.
I am sure that the bass fishing in the ponds is shut off for a day or two but we should be back to normal by the end of the week given our current dry weather forecast. Not to mention all of that rain lowers the water temperatures which should get the fish feeding in a big way.
Yesterday all of that freshwater made even the mackerel grumpy. It took almost an hour to put enough of them into the livewell to have bait when we got back upriver. The big news was not stripers on their fall run but bluefish. Bigger blues than I have seen all summer. They sure are great sport on a light rod. The only down side is that they seemed to only want live mackerel and would not take artificial bait. I prefer to catch them on surface poppers if I can.

I have been catching bluefish in my lobster traps for a couple weeks. Generally I got some striped bass each year but never did catch one.
In my area of the state they are doing will with live pogies which right now are still around in fairly good numbers.

It did not take long for them to disappear from the Saint George. At this point I am pretty sure that like the stripers they have headed for warmer waters. I hope that they come back next summer.
