Eaglets out of the nest!

It is easy to mark the progression of the season by the things that happen outdoors and today was one of those annual milestones. I was on a striper fishing trip and in the course of the morning passed three eagle nests. Fishing near the first nest I could see two heads over the side for a few minutes. As we passed the second both chicks were out of the nest perched on a nearby limb.

Loons up close

The best of spring fishing is underway with sight fishing for nesting bass; great fun with a fly rod. As I move along the shoreline searching for those beds I meet the loons who are right now searching out their nesting sites. I see at least a few every trip out some near familiar nest sites others in places I am surprised to see them.

Lost?

I had the day off and the weather was perfect. A fishing trip was in order; after all I do not always get to have a rod in my hands on such a perfect morning. I fished Quantabacook Lake in Searsmont; I fish there every few years and rarely with clients because it is so far away to make into a half day trip.
