Maine Guides Recognized

Created on Wed Jan 25, 2012 by Don Kleiner

I am heading to the Governor’s Conference on Tourism tomorrow. At the conference Registered Maine Guides will be recognized for 115 years of excellent customer service. I am fortunate to not only be a working guide, it is after all nice to be one of the recognized, and representing guides as the Executive Director of the Maine Professional Guides Association.

Our state has recognized and licenses guides for 115 years now but guiding in Maine has a much longer history. Even Thoreau used local guides on his trips to the Maine woods in the mid 1800’s. Many others of fame and note from Teddy Roosevelt (I guided one of his grandchildren a while back) to Ted Williams.

So congratulations to all of us for 115 years of exemplary service and I know that there is easily 115 more in the future.

I will also be at the conference to stand up for all Registered Maine Guides and especially the coastal sea kayaking guides. Registered Maine Guides truly do "lead the way". www.amaineguide.com
