Rain yesterday. We needed it. This has been a long dry summer and the rainstorm is a welcome break in the pattern. Chilly and damp and an inch and a half of water by mid afternoon. In fact I lit a fire in the stove in the living room at lunchtime. I had a trip scheduled for the morning but my clients called the evening before and asked if we could go on another hopefully drier day. It being late in the season I agreed and quick as that had the day off to get caught up at my desk.
The summer has been better than I expected that is for sure. I have guided most days in July and August with September already looking like it will be busy. As a result a couple of the projects I had planned for the slower paced summer are now very much behind schedule. The material for a new greenhouse is still in a pile in the garage and six cords of tree length firewood need my attention before too long.
September will be the same delightful weather we always enjoy. I have always said that the next eight weeks is the best part of the year in Maine. I am looking forward to being in boats and fishing with some of you or perhaps cutting and splitting firewood or building a greenhouse before my stints in the North Maine Woods start.
I hope that your year is better than expected and that you are able to get out and enjoy the best part of the year.
Best regards,
