Greetings from snow covered Union, Maine. We are in the middle of a snowstorm that was predicted to bring a few inches. The updated forecast is calling for between 10 and 16 inches. On the positive side it is very cold around 10 degrees Fahrenheit making the snow light, fluffy and dry. Easy to shovel or simply push out of the way. The wind is blowing hard out of the northeast and adding to the wintry chill while drifting that light snow around. Because of the cold the dogs are here in the office with me and as you might imagine keeping things interesting. I take them out for a bit every couple of hours to stretch their legs but even though the office is warm it is just not the same as spending the day outside.
I was able to get everything buttoned up before winter arrived. Boats covered and tucked out of the way of the snowplow. A new greenhouse added to the side of the garage and all of the winter’s firewood stacked in the garage. The forecast for the next week has our weather trending warmer with high temperatures in the 30’s. Hopefully not so warm that we miss out on a white Christmas.
Argy and I love winter and a snow day like this is exactly why. Things stop or at least slow to a crawl the snow makes everything quiet. Schools close, mail is not delivered and even the snowplows are waiting for the worst of the storm to pass before clearing the roads and driveways.
Like many of you I am on meetings on Zoom and Teams and those are not cancelled. A snow day from school is also a casualty of the pandemic but still the day feels different. Slower and more pleasant. My wish is that each of you is able to enjoy at least some quiet time this holiday season.
I’m already looking forward to next season and getting back out into the woods or onto the water with each of you. Until that time have the happiest and safest of holidays and enjoy your winter.
