The weather has gone from unbearably hot to the most pleasant cool summer days anyone could ask for. The sandpipers have started to gather for their migration on the local mud flats and last week I noticed flocks of cormorants and geese headed south. Over the next few weeks an amazing number of shore birds will gather on the local flats. The young terns are also in the river with their parents eagerly learning how to fish. You can always tell the young ones because they will readily follow a lure or fly. I always tell my clients to be ready to pull it away from them quickly if they are fooled. The striper fishing continues to hold up very well, here is a picture of one of the nice stripers caught on Sunday morning.
I spent the afternoon yesterday wading in the Saint George here in Union fishing for smallmouth bass with my son; to celebrate my 51st birthday. We had a good time and each caught a bunch of small fish. I had not fished that stretch in several years so it was fun for me to revisit an old haunt and for Noah to explore a place he had not seen. I have a scenic boat ride scheduled for tomorrow morning on the salt water part of the Saint George so the interesting diversity of this summer continues.
