Teaching Fishing at Becoming an Outdoors Woman Weekend

Blog Tags:

The Becoming an Outdoors Woman program is designed to introduce women to the outdoors with other women. Over the years I have volunteered as an instructor several times. This time I was asked to fill last minute for an intermediate fishing class. What fun!Women fishing from the beach

My students had a pretty wide range of skills but were all interested, asked tons of questions and lots of fun. I did a brief talk on safety and the things that I take on every fishing trip. Mostly safety and comfort items and why I feel that they are important. I also spent time on what to do when you catch a fish. Over the years I have seen many folks that simply did not know what to do once they have a fish on the end of the line.

We had spin and fly anglers fishing from the beach, and lots of fish caught. Bass perch and sunfish. I’m not sure that everyone caught a fish but most did. A very enjoyable morning and then I had to hurry back to Union to guide a family fishing trip in the afternoon. A great day on the water.
