Strong Southerly Breeze Today

Today is marked by a very strong southerly wind the weather man says it is ahead of a cold front that will work it’s way though tomorrow with rain showers. It has been very dry so the rain will be most welcome for the gardens and lawns.

I took the morning off and went fishing myself today. Because of the wind I decided to wade a short stretch of the Saint Gorge and cast a fly for smallmouth bass. I found afew bass that were great fun on the light fly rod. The little alewives are in large dark schools and starting to work their way downriver toward the ocean. The first school that I saw had me puzzled as to what that dark cloud was over the light sand bottom. Soon enough I could see them all swimming along like a cloud.

The smallmouth bass are definitely taking advantage of the abundant food source. They were quite fat even if not much bigger than normal.  I waded for a couple of hours and had great time exploring a stretch hat I had not waded until today. I am looking forward to having the chance to take one of my learn to fly fish trips there. With a shallow sand bottom the wading was simple and pleasant in the warm water.
