Striper Fishing Starts

Blog Tags:

Striper fishing in the Saint George River has gotten off to a slow start this year. This week though there have been a few fish to make things interesting. Not the blitz of fish of years gone by but enough to keep me fishing the river.

The problem today was water temperature on the east wind. I started far downriver in one of my early striper spots and the water temperature there was only 48. As I headed upriver the water gradually warmed and was in the mid fifties above the Route 1 bridge. The seals were congregated above the harbor which tells me that there must be a good amount of bait there.

The water is not the only chilly aspect of the last few days. I have had a fire in the woodstove the last couple of afternoons to warm me up after spending the morning on the water. The current forecast has things improving this weekend and next week. I expect that the weather and the fishing will only get better.
