I think of fall as a big transition for me I switch from canoe and fishing trips in the mid coast to brook trout fishing and upland bird hunting in the North Maine Woods at Libby Camps. Gradually I switch over to driving a desk and attending meetings as the executive director of the Maine Professional Guides Association.
Spring is the reverse, meetings slow down and gradually I am able to leave my desk and get on the water again. First comes maintenance on all of the equipment I will need for the coming season and replacing anything that is not first rate. Life vests, paddles, fishing line everything needs to be looked over. I am in the middle of that transition and am really looking forward to getting back out on the lakes, rivers and ponds.
After a long delightful spring last year we were expecting more of the same this year. That has proved to not be the case, Saturday we had a cold wind with rain (snow at times). I registered all of the boats and trailers last week, and had the annual overhauls done last fall so I am sort of ready to go, if the weather should turn warmer as the forecast claims it will.
I have meeting days this week but am hoping to squeeze in a few hours on the water and am looking forward to the transition.
