At last the storm appears to be passing

The storm of the last few days is finally loosening its grip on us. We have over 5 inches of rain and some incredible wind. We were without power like many in the area for a day and a half. We are truly fortunate because we heat with a woodstove and it still works even without electricity. The new Jotul 118 definitely proved that it is worth having around as we were warm throughout.

The most remarkable thing about the storm was the barometric pressure. A fellow boat captain and client from New Jersey called on Monday and asked what my reading was I looked and I had 28.7 inches of mercury that morning a very low reading for sure. He reported that he had 28.44 which I would imagine is about as low as it gets. With that low pressure we had the wind you would expect I recorded gusts over 50 mph. We had only a little damage luckily, the Maine Outdoors sign from in front of the office was torn down but we did not loose any shingles from the roof or even trees in the yard. We are fortunate to be protected from the northeast wind by the hill behind us.

The current forecast calls for a string of really nice days ahead. Of course the water will be much to high to fish but at least we are headed in the right direction.
