Kids Fishing Event A Success even in the rain

I have helped my neighbors put on a kids fishing event in memory of their son for the last three years. Each year the weather does not cooperate. We even moved it from May to June to try and get better conditions. But Saturday was cold and raining just like the last three times we put it on. The only real difference this time was that the river was definitely at flood stage. The beach at the park had completely disappeared and the water was up in the trees. Here is a picture of a few kids lined up along the shore of Seven Tree Pond in Union trying their luck.

Just like the weather not changing so is the response that we get in terms of attendance and support from the community. Our turnout was pretty close to the last two years I would guess that we saw a total of around 50 kids. A great bunch of folks show up to help out and it is really not much work at all to pull it off. Donations just seem to show up as if by magic from give away fishing poles for the kids to worms to use for bait. We cook and serve a bunch of hot dogs and cookies during the day not to mention baiting about a thousand fish hooks before it is all over. (Not at the same time as serving hot dogs) The local press is also very generous with their coverage each sending a reporter who takes a ton of pictures to go with their articles. Overall a great success and fun to be part of for me.
