This weekend is without a doubt the peak fall foliage in the mid coast. I arrived back in Union after a week at Libby Camps guiding grouse hunters during the night and woke up to this outstanding view off of our deck.
The week up north was most enjoyable. I always like getting into remote country and walking around with the dogs. We are seeing a good number of birds, in fact more woodcock than I have ever seen in that part of the world, but as usual not doing much damage to the populations. Highlights of the week included a couple of lunch cookouts and the opportunity to work with other guides, here is Matt about to serve the stir fry at lunch one afternoon last week.
Of course no trip into the North Maine Woods is complete without wildlife sightings and last week I saw a very big bull moose, a cow and a calf moose and a fisher crossed the road while I was driving home late last night.
Next week I am scheduled to do guide a couple of fly out grouse hunts. It will be a great adventure and I am curious to see how well the dogs do flying in a float plane. More on that next time!
