Big changes in the fishing during one day.

It is amazing how the fishing can change over only a few hours. Yesterday I fished a pond for smallmouth bass on my morning trip. Fish were biting very well and I would conservatively guess that a couple dozen came to the boat.  I came home had lunch and go ready for my afternoon perch fishing trip thinking it would be no problem. We would catch a bunch of fish and have a great time. Wrong again!

I moved four or five times before getting onto a few small reluctant fish. The afternoons total was twenty five including a very nice smallmouth bass taken on a large shiner. The bass put on quite a show chasing the shiner around and swirling at it for several minutes before taking the bait. We also had three other large bass on but we did not get the hook set well enough. Even so the afternoon was totally different than the morning had been. If you had told me I it would be like that I would not have believed you. How could it change so quickly?

This morning the stripers changed in a similar way I had very good fishing from 6 to 8 AM but by 9 they would not even follow the lure back to the boat. Of course this is really what the striper fishing has been over the years good early and then shutting down as the sun comes up. Last summer got me thinking that stripers would bite all day, they did last year. But now we are back to normal.
