spring fishing

What a day!

Granted the fishing was slow (only a few little bass) but the day and setting were perfect I was on Alford Lake in Hope Alford Lakewithout a cloud in the sky, temperatures in the high sixties and a gentle west wind. Two pairs of loons a few wood ducks and an eagle overhead. It does not get any better than this; you all missed a nearly perfect day on the water today. I’m sure this is the first of many!

April Fools!

April first is not only a traditional day of pranks. It is an official one here in Maine, the first day of our open water fishing season. The joke is that there is precious little open water to fish in. Not to mention that the air temperatures are a little on the chilly side, it is cloudy and for a while this morning we had a little light snow. What open water there is open at the moment is running high and cold.

I am sure that the weather will improve with time but for today open water fishing is a bit of an April fool’s joke. Hope that you were able to get out were not fooled.

First Fishing Trip

I am still trying out the new Lund Alaskan and making sure that everything works as it should before my season really gets underway. To do that I thought that I would take advantage of the warm afternoon that we were having today. I launched the boat in Seven Tree pond and after an initial mishap (left the plug out when I launched, really good news the bilge pump works like a charm) I spent an hour or so bass fishing.
