Clear skies again

Blog Tags:

After a couple of cool drizzly foggy days the weather cleared this morning. I was striper fishing in the lower Saint George and you could feel the air change and begin to dry out. The sun and blue skies did not impress the fish they were pretty much in a funk over the improved visibility and high tide. I took advantage of the nice weather and rode out to the near islands to try a few of my favorite mid summer striper spots. All about the same fish wise but a nice change of scenery anyway.

Weather Eye

When you are outdoors every day like I am the weather impacts what you do every day. Friday I was guiding a striper fisherman in the Lower Saint George and as we returned to the harbor at the end of his trip I commented that I did not like the look of the sky. At that moment there was mostly blue sky with a few white puffy clouds in the northern sky. He responded that he saw no reason for me not to take my canoe trip that afternoon.

Two days of bass fishing

I guided parties yesterday and today on a pair of my favorite bass fishing ponds. Both days had very good fishing and everyone caught a number of fish. It is always a pleasure to guide out of the Grand Lake Canoe. It is beautiful, adding something to the trip all by itself, and a pleasure to paddle. On Saturday the smallmouth bass were not overly eager but simply could not resist a well presented fly. One of the women liked to change flies even if she had one that was working. Not the way that I normally play it but a great way to see the range of patterns that will work on any given day.
