Over the years life vest have gotten more comfortable and they have come to cover a larger range of sizes. Maine Outdoors requires everyone on a canoe trip to wear a vest and kids under 10 are required to wear them any time they are in a boat.
As summer vacation draws to a close I have run several family fishing trips with young kids. Usually for yellow perch but lately a few bass and white perch have gotten into the mix. Last week on Seven Tree Pond several nice bass were brought to the boat and two broke the line when hooked the drags on my closed face reels are simply not adequate for big fish. Pretty exciting stuff for young kids and old guides.
I am enjoying a couple of days off this week to rest up and prepare for my next set of trips. Hurricane Bill passed by yesterday. We were concerned because Noah (our oldest son) was riding out the storm in Southwest Harbor aboard the Rachel B Jackson, the schooner he has been working on all summer. The forecast predicted that all would be well and it was.
