Summer Trout!

My summer is normally filled with bass, stripers, perch and mackerel. This young man wanted to go trout fishing; not my first choice mid-summer but I knew we might catch a few fish. Our day started off with a bang with brightly colored native brook trout taking almost every fly cast to them. The first few hours were magic with good numbers of fish coming to the canoe. These small stream brook trout are not huge but special because of being wild natives each one colored like a jewel.

After lunch the dry fly fishing started in earnest not big numbers like the morning but several trout sipped the flies and came to hand. A delightful day with a most appreciative young man who gave me confidence that the future would be in good hands. All around a great day on the water and a good reminder to me to do something different once in a while just for the fun of it!
