Since the day in this picture was taken back in 2008 I have known that there are pike in the Saint George watershed. Since they are most likely here to stay and might grow to significant size I have been thinking that they might be something that my clients would be interested in fishing for.
I have read and been told that early spring is the best time to seek the big pike and have made a few tries over the last several years. This morning on a perfect spring day, warm, still and crystal clear I found some of them. Interesting that the fish did not start to move until late morning. When they did it was more like hunting than fishing. They were visible on the surface and I simply needed to position the boat so that I could cast the big streamer fly nearby.
The strikes were sudden and very strong needless; to say my Orvis 6wt was a little light and I had trouble getting them to the boat but I had them figured out. The only downside is that I am busy for the next several days and will not be able to get back there until Saturday. I hope that the weather holds until I can return with heavier gear and my camera!

Pike
I just hate when that happens! The camera wasn't in the boat when I landed my first pike on a fly.
We're heading for cold waters at Grand Lake Stream in the morning.....with the camera!
I always enjoy reading your adventures. Your enjoyment of helping others is very apparent.
Thanks for sharing with all of us.
