After all of the rain we have had all of our lakes and ponds are very high. Some like Seven Tree in Union are up feet rather than inches because of the river flow. In these conditions I like to fish the lakes higher up in their watersheds or on small watersheds that seem to suffer fewer effects.
Yesterday I chose Megunticook Lake in Camden. The water was very high, although not up in the parking lot like I have seen in the past and the water temperature still surprisingly warm. Starting with a large streamer fly we started catching fish almost at the boat launch. After a move or two down the lake I tied on a surface fly just to see if it might work. Surprisingly it worked like a charm on largemouth, smallmouth and even a few white perch! Even with all of the water the lake is still fishing well and to me the big news; surface action has started for the summer.
The weather forecast has changed and we are heading into a long stretch of perfect summer weather and I will be out with clients almost every day for the next couple of weeks enjoying the weather and the fishing!
