Eaglets fledged, loon chicks hatched

Blog Tags:

In the last couple of weeks the eaglets have all left their nests and are now flying around. Eagle watching trips are more of a challenge for the guide because while they are in the same general area they are not in the nest tree waiting to be fed. Still eager to be fed by the parents they put up quite a racket when an adult is in the area, pleading for yet another meal.

After the late spring rain and rising water levels I was sure that there would be very few loon chicks this summer. I was wrong there are chicks on several of the lakes I have been on in the last two weeks. Always right with their parents and now growing steadily before I know it they will be nearly as big as their parents.

The biggest news though is the weather that changed overnight. We got Maine back! It has been a long humid and hot stretch. Today will be the perfect Maine summer day and by luck I have no one’s name in my calendar!
