One of our annual rites of fall is attending the Common Ground Fair put on by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners now held in Unity. We have attended the fair almost every year since 1981. It is always an event with great food and a collection of different ideas. The first fair we attended was held in Litchfield Maine where we heard a fellow explain how he heated his hot water with a coil of pipe in a manure pile.
We have many friends that we see at the fair some of them we only see at the fair each year. Argy has a cousin living in Jackson that we would never see if it were not for the fair each September. Our friends also have had children that went to the fair each year now grown that add to the folks we see at the fair. We first went without any children and then with the boys for years and now we meet our oldest son and his girlfriend at the fair and my parents went to the fair along with us.
Noah and I watched the sheep dog demonstration those dogs are truly amazing any time I see them work. My own dogs are pretty amazing a good part of the time but those border collies take being trained to a much higher level.
If you have never attended it is a nice event with an abundance of good food and quality crafts with none of the glitzy midway of the other agricultural fairs.
