Our shift toward shorter days and cooler weather might seem gradual, but if you look closely, it's pretty clear!
I start to notice it when the goldfinches begin nesting in the field across the street. Then, suddenly, our hummingbird feeder is swamped! I'm never sure if these new visitors are the offspring of our earlier birds or if they're already migrating south. But the change that really gets me is needing to turn on the light over the sink when I make coffee in the morning. It's only 4:45 AM, sure, but just a month ago it was bright out at that time!
Soon, the maples near our ponds will start turning scarlet, a sure sign that things are really shifting. For me, this time of year also means the Guided Scenic Maine Coast Boat Trip gets more popular, which is a nice change of pace on a warm afternoon. And before you know it, kids in more southern areas will be heading back to school, leading to a drop in the number of perch fishing trips with them.
All these changes definitely mean we're heading into my favorite time of the year! The weather settles into more predictable patterns with cool nights and warm, sunny days. And that Maine fall light that artists rave about just adds another wonderful thing to look forward to.
Summer is certainly not over but before you know it fall will be close.
Don't miss out on seeing Maine at the the best time of the year. You can make a reservation for a trip at this link. I hope to see each of you before this summer ends.
As always come write or call if i can help you create your outdoor memories.
