Speaking to the Legislature

For many years now fishing licenses have been provided on our trips because the funds collected are a primary source of funding for biology and law enforcement on our waters. Think of it as our commitment to conservation at the smallest scale. I am able to gather the information I need to issue your licenses online and have them on file before we start your trip.

This week I had the opportunity to speak to the Maine Legislatures committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in support of a proposal to increase those fees. The state wildlife agency like Maine Outdoors needs to think about balancing pricing and costs. I explained earlier this winter that I had decided not to raise prices in 2025 but recognized that costs were clearly requiring them to rise.

Time was that I appeared in front of a legislative committee regularly as part of my position in with the Maine Professional Guides Association. These days I am rarely at a hearing. It was nice to return  and see a few old friends while giving the committee my thoughts.

For those of you that might have an interest you can read I told them at this link. You never know how legislation will turn out but I am certain that the committee heard me and is taking my thoughts into account. Not to mention it was fun to visit the old gig!
