Good news; the smallmouth bass do not seem to have been discouraged by all of the rain over the last few days. The Saint George is very high and running to hard to wade for a week or so I would guess. Yesterday I fished on one of the local lakes higher up in the headwaters hoping that the fish would still be in the late spring pattern.
We got a lot of rain, around six inches in three days, not as much as it sounds like they got further to our west but still plenty. We managed to get in the Kids Fishing event at Ayer Park in Union on Saturday the rain started as we were packing up.
Only a few of the numerous bass beds had fish defending them. There were plenty of fish holding on structure willing to take flies. The run of fish even seemed a little larger than normal, partly explained by the big flies my clients were casting. We fished through rain showers all morning and of course the sun came out once the boat was back on the trailer.
