October is a very busy month and I split my time between Union and T8R9 in northern Maine guiding at Libby Camps. Most but not all of my days are spent guiding upland bird hunters with the rest going to fishing trips. Spending so much time outdoors leads to lots of interesting wildlife sightings. In the last month clients and I have seen many moose (maybe three dozen), three fishers, a martin and an otter. We also saw deer, eagles and even a couple of ospreys who stayed in Maine late this year.
The otter was in Megunticook Lake in Camden and gave us a really good look. I even had a young bull moose come closer than either of us wanted to being hit by the Yukon. Eagles are abundant along the lower Saint George River this time of year and seem to be almost everywhere in the area. So while the leaves are gone and the weather is cooler there is still plenty to see and do in the Maine Outdoors.
