Seems like the weather has turned for sure. Summer like temperatures on Monday after a chilly Saturday, in fact I wore my rain jacket all day on Saturday and for a while wished for my fleece vest under that. Monday was warm and humid although the air seems drier this evening.
Water temperatures responded just like you would expect after being in the mid-fifties on Saturday all day; Monday afternoon saw a consistent water temp of sixty four. Bass are starting to defend nests and bass fishing should only get better for the next ten days or so. Pickerel were very cooperative both days most important though they helped a 12 year old learn to fly fish and generated plenty of excitement we caught several nice specimens.
Monday afternoon for those who follow such things there was caddis fly hatch on the pond as we left. Lots of the fluffy adults were just starting to come off of the waters’ surface. It is time for a little dry fly fishing for trout this week. Wildlife sightings were worth the price of admission several eagles, loons; including one on a nest flattening herself to remain hidden and a variety of songbirds in full display and song. All in all a pretty good weekend to be in the Maine Outdoors.
