Moonset on the Solstice

Blog Tags:

This morning Argy and I were on our walk, early and it was still dark. We rounded the corner on the other side of our hill and were delighted to see the brilliant orange moon setting in the west. It was cloudy so we were only able to see it for a few brief minutes low on the horizon.

Unusual enough to see a moonset but when you consider that there is a lunar eclipse tonight (won't be able see it here because of the clouds) and today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. As luck would have it neither of us had a camera or even our phones, so it is just a great memory and a story.

So many great experiences outdoors depend on being in the right place at the right time. You can improve your odds by being out all of the time or by hiring someone who knows how to put the odds in your favor.
