A little snow

A little snow is falling this morning but it is still pretty warm for February. We are forecast to have cold weather for the next few days though. This is the time of the winter when I begin to look at the wood pile and calculate if there is enough to last the winter. Of course in this house with an oil furnace and central heat it is not as critical as it was when wood was our only source of warmth. Still I always calculate and worry that we will run out.

Luckily last fall I brought more than enough wood into the garage and piled another half of a cord outside. In addition our wood for next winter was delivered on Monday so we have more than enough on hand to get us through until spring this year. Last winter we ran out in March and not only was the snow deep enough to keep me from the woodlot I was on the road so much that there was little time to replenish the supply. So having more than enough wood on hand is a very pleasant state of affairs this winter. It has helped a bunch that it has been so warm as well.

All of this less than severe winter weather has me speculating on the spring and when I can return to fishing with clients. We not only have little ice on the lakes and ponds but the rivers have been running bank full which prevented much ice from forming wherever there was any current. When we drove through Belgrade yesterday I was stunned to see how much of the pond was open at the outlet of the stream. I should not have been surprised though as a good part of both Seven Tree and Round Ponds here in Union have stayed open all winter.
