A little nip in the air

We have had a few days of cold weather this weekend that were ushered in on strong west winds on Friday. Low temperatures were at of near 0, but it looks like we will moderate some this week. The ground is still bare and I guess that there is not a lot of hope for enough snow to cross country ski this winter. My son went ice fishing on one of the smaller ponds yesterday and reported that there was only 4 inches of ice. It won’t take long for that to melt this spring.

Our firewood for next year is scheduled to arrive today so I will have some work waiting for me in the woodpile any time I am looking for something to do. The Jotul 118 CB has proven to be a good stove after some initial getting used to. After spending the winter feeding it I am pleased with how it works and really enjoy being able to watch the fire through the glass door. In fact I have taken to watching the fire while I have my morning coffee.

Things start to get busy in the next month or so getting ready for the coming season. My work at the legislature is winding down slowly and I expect to not have to go regularly after the first week in March. I appreciate the seasonality of what I do and being back in charge of my schedule. We have begun to plan our spring vacation and the realization that I can simply close the door and go was very pleasant. You can’t get any more fortunate than that.
