Great fall fishing

Today was one of those cool fall days that serve as a reminder of what is coming. When I pushed the boat off of the trailer I could see the birds working on a school of stripers that had bait pushed to the surface. The wind was blowing harder than I like it to first thing in the morning and the sky was not crystal clear but you could tell that it would be not long after sun up. It was cool enough to have me wearing a couple of layers for warmth and my rain jacket to keep the wind off. The leaves are getting pretty far along with changing their colors even down on the coast. So it was a perfectly pretty fall morning wha ti always refer to as chamber of commerce weather.

Today was a pickup on the river for me, I have done several this season and I think that it adds a lot to the trip. Not to mention that I get to stop and fish on my way downriver to make the pickup. I rode straight over to the surface feeding stripers and caught a dozen before the wind threatened to push me too far on to the mudflat to get off. I left the spot thinking wow I have it made when I spotted another flock of birds working further down. I stopped and caught a couple of stripers before heading off to pick up my clients.

I got them into the boat as quickly as I could knowing that the sun would end the feeding frenzy quickly on this perfectly clear morning. We were back in a flash and they each had several fish before the flurry ended. The rest of the morning was not as productive but we were able to catch a fish or two at almost every stop.

I have striper trips scheduled for the weekend and am looking forward to more great fall fishing.
