Yesterday was warm and sunny and we spent a good part of the morning sitting on the deck. After a long winter it felt great to be sitting outside in the sun. Even if the snow was piled high around the deck making, it hard to see over the top of the pile. With the onset of warm weather I have seen several chipmunks out and about having come out of hibernation. Clearly spring is on its way and the next few weeks will bring gradually warming temperatures and thawing ice.
Both Seven Tree and Round Ponds have open water where the river current flows in. So far we have been fortunate and avoided big rainstorms that would raise water levels quickly and make for possible flooding. Hopefully the snow will continue to melt slowly and we will avoid any flooding or ice jams.
I stopped in at Ayer Park this morning to see if there was enough open water along the river to launch a canoe. So I am hopeful that my first paddle of the year will be in the next couple of weeks. There is still enough snow that getting any of the trailers out to move boats around is still a dream. But it won’t be long now!!
