Critter Tracks

We had a few inches of snow on Sunday another dusting last night and are forecast to have another storm tomorrow. Temperatures turned colder and freezing is now a high for the day rather than something it might do overnight. In fact I put the heated water buckets in the kennel yesterday since the buckets had stopped thawing during the day. After a long warm fall winter is here.

One of the real benefits though is being able to see the tracks of animals that are in the neighborhood but you rarely see. Argy and I walk most mornings and today was a great reminder of some of the critters in our corner of the world that we on hear or almost never hear from. We saw coyote tracks working along the road going up the hill and fox tracks doing almost the same thing on the other side of the road. There were a couple of sets of deer tracks crossing into our woodlot as well. We hear coyotes howling many nights and from the sounds there are a lot of them but only rarely do we see them. I occasionally see a fox or a deer but only a few times a year. So it was nice to see what has been travelling in the neighborhood while we slept.

The winter is a great time for getting out and seeing what is really living in your woods. A fun activity on snowshoes later this winter or right now with only a pair of warm boots, take a minute and get out to see what is in your neighborhood.
