Conservation Education Donations in 2008

Last year Maine Outdoors took a big step and dedicated 10% of profits to conservation education efforts. So where did the donations I promised in 2008 go. Maine Outdoors supported the following organizations and groups to further their efforts.

The Maine Conservation School in Bryant Pond much of this donation was time and expenses to facilitate the merger with Maine Cooperative Extension the school is now the University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond. They are still doing the same important conservation education with a greater reach. Unity College also got a donation of time in various Trustees meetings as well as some financial support.

Our local Hooked on Fishing Event also gets a considerable amount of time and material as needed. It has been amazing to see the growth in this event in only a few short years and equally gratifying to see the numbers of adults that show up to help out on the day of the event.

Other donations went to Casting for Recovery, the Kennebec Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited for their Trout Camp program and the Maine Professional Guides Association. These donations are a small effort to insure that the next generation knows and enjoys the outdoors as much as I do.
