Clear skies again

After a couple of cool drizzly foggy days the weather cleared this morning. I was striper fishing in the lower Saint George and you could feel the air change and begin to dry out. The sun and blue skies did not impress the fish they were pretty much in a funk over the improved visibility and high tide. I took advantage of the nice weather and rode out to the near islands to try a few of my favorite mid summer striper spots. All about the same fish wise but a nice change of scenery anyway. After spending yesterday in the thick fog and drizzle it was very pleasant to have sun and good visibility. Not to mention that the Maine coast is attractive anytime.

I saw harbor porpoises closer to the harbor than I have ever seen them on my ride downriver. I assume that there are schools of mackerel well up into the river and that is what is drawing the porpoises. I have not seen as many as I did last summer but they are still quite common to see. I also saw lots of seals this morning I assume more because of the high tide than anything. There seem to be large schools of herring around as evidenced by the number of gulls and terns hanging aroud looking for an opportunity to have an easy meal.
