Birds species coming in waves

Each spring I write as different species of birds have arrived back from their winter vacations. A few hawks first, then the turkey vultures. Ducks and geese follow the retreating ice and woodcock arrive soon after. The bluebirds have arrived and we are waiting for the last and most colorful wave the warblers.

I got to thinking about the waves of arrivals this morning on our daily walk when the white throated sparrows were singing along the roadside and realized that we are now less than two weeks from warblers arrival. It is always something that you have to enjoy quickly before the leaves come out and obscure these bright gems of the treetops. When the leaves are out summer will be here soon.

So if you have been waiting for the best time to see different species of birds the time is now.
