A rainy morning today has me at my desk catching up on office work. Hard to imagine but the summer season is half gone! We had a hot spell that made early afternoons uncomfortable and likely will have another. But as sure as the sun is rising a little later every day we are headed toward my favorite time of the year. While the weather will improve to be sure I will miss the family fishing trips of mid-summer that typically include someone catching their first fish and then going on to catch a bunch more. The boy on Saturday’s trip claimed 38; with multiple lines fishing at once I cannot verify the number, but we went through lots of worms that afternoon.
Freshwater bass fishing has held up nicely and pike continue to show up regularly. Striper fishing in the salt is entering the shallow water flats fishing part of the season, something I look forward to every summer. I have a couple of boat tours of the saltwater combined with a freshwater trip the same day. One to explore the watershed and one to focus on the local history. An interesting twist on my normal offerings that keeps it all fresh for me.
Still plenty of summer to go and of course then comes the fall! Honestly I am looking forward to every minute.
